Updates and Announcements

Hello Guides :)

For the photo-taking tomorrow, please be in your full uniform (with Beret and Lanyard). For the 7 Bird Patrols, you should already have your new patrol emblems by now. Sew it on your full uniform and wear it tomorrow. If you have your old one because you cannot find a replacement, wear your old patrol emblem tomorrow.
For Ixora and Orchid, you will be getting your new patrol emblems soon. Meanwhile, for tomorrow, you will not be required to wear a patrol emblem with your full uniform, even if you have your old one.
After photo-taking tomorrow, Y1s will have to change back to their PE+Blue Skirt, while Y2s and Y3s will be in their full uniform for the whole act.
Please do ask ASAP if you have any questions; I will do my best to clarify it.

Here is an important message from Ms Loh.

To all guides:

Please note that for ALL interest badges you are completing, you should be assessed by a qualified adult. Parents, guiders and teachers can be testers. In the event that you are finding an expert who is not related to you e.g your piano teacher for Minstrel badge, please state the teacher's relationship with you so that it is easier for me to identify who the person is because I need to check the validity. It is not fair for your learning if you find any random person to pass you because you may not have learnt for the skills stated in the clauses and it defeats the whole purpose of getting an interest badge. Please get the tester to write comments down as well instead of just ticking because you ought to know your areas of strengths and weaknesses from the activities. If not, you'll never improve.

Next, please DO NOT approach any testers only when the deadline is near because they can be busy. A deadline is given to you so that you can complete the badges beforehand and not last minute. It is not fair to the testers.

To clarify Accident Prevention Badge, only Year 2s are to be tested by me. The other levels can approach me or other testers. As for first-aid badge, as long as what you've learnt fulfills the clauses stated in the badge, I can sign the badge.

I wish to say again that I hope that you will be able to learn new skills and knowledge as you attempt completing the other interest badges.

Ms Loh

Guides, do take what our Guider has said seriously. I believe we are Guides of standard and integrity, so let's uphold it :)

Reminder again to clarify any questions you might have ASAP. See you tomorrow!

Yujia ^^

Flow of the NDP Parade
Sunday, July 8, 2012

To all the Year 2s and 3s involved in the NDP Parade, this is the flow of events that will take place during the parade. Please read through and be familiarized with it. Those in red are some feedback given by seniors of other UG, so please take note of it. It is quite long, but these are all crucial information for the parade, so please read through carefully.

FORM UP
The form up should start at the corner of the field, with the people at the third row aligned to the white line as that row would be marching on the line itself.
*Throughout the whole parade, even if it is a rehearsal, please stand up straight and look confident. Do NOT slouch as it looks as 'zombiefied', as though everyone's dying. Try to look more alert and more 精神, it will really make a difference :)

MARCH IN
DO NOT start right after the command. Wait for the snare drum. It will sound like 'drrrdrrrdrrr, drrrdrrrdrrr, dak' at the 'dak' then we can start marching in. Just look straight, heads up, chest out, and march. But the people at the front and back, please take note and mark the positions. When we reach the point, start to hantak until the double beat is given. When you hear the double beat, which is 'dumdum, dumdum, dum, dum, dum', only TURN TO YOUR RIGHT at the LAST 'dum', which is the one in blue.
*At the start of the march in, march slower for SJAB to catch up. There have been feedbacks that the holes between the two contingents are too large.

After the double beat, there would be 'Ke dalam lutlus'. The timing is 'up check', and please take note that you DO NOT have to raise your hands, just tilt your heads. The right most column, please tilt your heads too to align to SJAB. If the spacing is too huge, move accordingly.
*When you adjust to align, DO NOT take small steps. In this case, shuffle your feet. Take note: shuffling of feet is only for ke dalam lutlus. DO NOT shuffle when marching.

NATIONAL ANTHEM
Next, the flag party for the Singapore flag would fold the flag and it'll be raised during the National Anthem. During this period of time, the contingent just has to sing the National Anthem. You DO NOT have to salute.
*Continue looking straight, look confident :)

NATIONAL DAY MESSAGE + RECOLLECTIONS
After the National Anthem, a command would be given for senangdiri. Please remember to lift your left leg up for senangdiri, instead of the normal shifting of left foot. The nationalday message would be read out, followed by the recollections. Please respond loudly. But take note to lower the pitch when shouting or it will sound sharp, which is quite unpleasant.

RECAP:
First response:
They had no rights, they had no say,
And they longed to be free one day.

Second response:
Our happiness was not to be
Until our country could be free.

Third response:
We pledge to keep our nation free
With justice and equality.

NDP SONG
Afterwhich, you will still be in senangdiri position and we will sing 'My People My Home'. For this, please also remember to SING LOUDLY :)
*Continue look up, look smart :) 任何一刻都不能松懈 ^^

RECAP:
Link for video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5QkK4Cd59Y
Lyrics:
My People, My Home

Who are you, my country?
More than celebrations and tears
More than memories put together
Or the summing up of years

I see you enduring all weathers
Sunshine and storms at your heart
In your face the lines ever changing
Tell the story where I have a part

[Chorus]
You, My people, My home
Our lives defend and uphold
May the good we achieve as one nation
Be shared with the world

As a new chapter begins
From where we have come thus far
Once again may it be written
You are who we are

In you may we see ourselves
Your needs your strength in us
That the work for freedom and peace
Is mine as much as ours
[Chorus] x2
You, My people, My home
Our lives defend and uphold
May the good we achieve as one nation
Be shared with the world

May the good we achieve as one nation
Be shared with the world

NATIONAL PLEDGE
After 'My People My Home', the command for sedia would be given. Next up would be the pledge. Please listen out for the command and also take note that the timing would be 'one check one' and please start to raise your fist to place it over your chest at the 'one' which is in blue. After the recitation of the pledge, DO NOT put your hand down immediately. Another command would be given and the timing would be 'check cut'. Please jerk your hand down at cut.

After the pledge would be the morning annoucements (if any).
*During the announcements, continue looking confident :) Stand up straight, dont slouch.

MARCH OFF
A command would be given for everyone to turn right. The command would end with 'ke kanan pusing', so please be alert and take note. Its the normal Ke kanan pusing, but no timing would be given, so please stay alert and turn accordingly. After that, the starting drum roll would be given again but DO NOT MOVE. It will be for the contigent commanders and flag party. So if you see me move, please STAY PUT. After that, there would be a second drum roll, but STAY PUT. It'll be for NCC and NPCC to start marching off, and only at the THIRD drum roll, we will march off together with the Scouts/Ventures and SJAB.

Belok:
After marching forward, somewhere near where we started, there will be belok. Please remember that you are supposed to belok NINTY DEGREES at that EXACT spot, not anywhere near or anywhere far. There would be a second belok after that and the same rules apply.
*While belok-ing, belok FAST, but after the belok, when its normal marching, take SMALL STEPS for the others behind to catch up.

March past:
When nearing the flagpoles, the command 'pandan kekanan pandang' would be given. Please tilt your heads up to face the flag and MARCH STRAIGHT. Your hands would continue swinging and DONT salute, just tilt your heads. At the other end, the command 'pandan kehadapan pandang' would be given and everyone is to tilt your heads back at the same time. There would be no timing, so please try to practise with each other more to synchronise.

March back:
After the march past, we would follow the tracks to go to the basketball court near the Entertainment Room (ER). And please take note that right before the ER, where we are supposed to turn, it is a BELOK, not any random turning. For this belok, the same rule applies. After which, we would all march in, infront of the ER and hantak until the double beat is given. For this double beat, you DO NOT have to turn. Just continue facing straight and bang AFTER the last 'dum'.
*Throughout the WHOLE parade, look up, look smart, look confident :) Also, please remember that you are not to move to align during the parade EXCEPT when you're either marching or when the command 'Ke dalam lutlus' is given. Hence, when the command to align is given, please align PROPERLY, as that will be your alignment for the whole parade.

And that will be the end of the parade.

All these are hand-typed so apologies for any grammatical errors or spelling errors. Please really read through this and if there is any questions, feel free to ask me. It might get tiring but i'm sure we can all do it together, as River Valley Girl Guides :)

NDP

Hello guides :)

Make sure to learn and memorise the lyrics and the recollections by the next act and shout/sing loudly during the rehearsal!

The recollections:

First response:
They had no rights, they had no say,
And they longed to be free one day.

Second response:
Our happiness was not to be
Until our country could be free.

Third response:
We pledge to keep our nation free
With justice and equality.

I know all of you are probably tired and numb to all the scoldings. We do see that you girls have improved from the first act, but it is not enough. It is not up to the NDP standard (yet), it is not up to the expectations that we have of you. Most importantly, it is not yet enough to surpass yourself. Don't settle for a mere pass. I want to see you girls not only reaching the standards, but also surpassing yourself as a guide. Stand tall and make RVGG proud. :) If you are meant to be part of RVGG, then be the best girl guide you can ever be. I believe in all of us. :) Jiayous for all the NDP rehearsals ahead!‏
