Combined UG Trip to Huashan, Taiwan Jan/Feb 2013
Thursday, October 11, 2012 Early next year, the River Valley Uniform Groups will be having a combined overseas trip to Taiwan (Taichung & Taipei) from the 24th January to 31st January 2013 (8D7N). This trip will include a 4 days 3 nights camp in the scenic area of Huashan (Taichung) together with students from our sister school, Sacred Hearts High School. Following that, students will have an enriching experience visiting scenic areas and experiencing metropolitan Taipei. Rationale for the trip: 1. To serve as a way for our UG cadets to apply their outdoor hiking, camping and survival skills in an authentic outdoor setting with a well-managed safety risk. Sacred Hearts have conducted this Huashan hike-cum-camp for more than 20 years. A cool weather camping climate is also a precious experience for our cadets. 2. To serve as a platform for our UG cadets to be immersed in a Chinese-speaking and Chinese culture while they engage in cultural interaction through an exchange of outdoor skills and competencies. 3. To expose our students and staff to how leadership and character development is done through a Scouting framework and a whole-school approach, utilising an authentic outdoor environment that develops resilience. 4. To expose our students to the traditional and street culture of Taiwan through the rest & recreational programme. The estimated cost for this 8D7N trip is S$1200 (without subsidy). Subsidies will be considered by the school on a case-by-case basis. Tentative Itinerary: Day Activities 24 Jan 2013 Singapore - Taipei - Taichung 25-28 Jan 2013 Huashan Camp with Sacred Hearts High School 28 Jan 2013 Travel to Miao Li (R&R) – homestay & hotsprings 29-30 Jan 2013 Taipei (R&R) 31 Jan 2013 Taipei-Singapore Hey Guides! There will be a combined UG trip to Huashan, Taiwan in Jan/Feb 2013. Do refer to the above information for more details regarding the trip. 10 Year 2s and 5 Year 3s are allowed to go for this trip. For those interested, do get your parent's consents and inform your PLs by 14 Oct, 3pm sharp. I will send the consent forms (via email) to interested people on 15 Oct (Monday).
