Wednesday, January 30, 2013  27/1 Act, WAGGGS and Greenpeace Flag for the Future Competition
Sunday, January 27, 2013  This is the act for Tuesday. In addition, there will be an upcoming "Flag for the Future Competition, brief details are as shown below.
The Flag for the Future competition is a global competition for 6-26 year olds to design a flag that represents peace, global community and hope. This flag will be planted on the seabed at the North Pole to mark the spot where a pod with the names of the millions of people who have signed the Save the Arctic petition will be planted.
How the competition will work· The competition is open to all 6-26 year olds.· Entries can be made electronically or by post· Shortlisted entries will be voted on by a panel, made up of representatives from Greenpeace, WAGGGS and celebrities, including fashion designer Vivienne Westwood · The winning entry will be made into a flag to be planted on the ocean bed at the North Pole. Dear Guides,
Dear Guides,
Welcome to 2013! Well this might be a little late, but we
are still in the first month, and first term of this year.
For some of us, the youngest in the company (won’t be for
long though)—Y2s, this means your second year in Guiding. It’s been a year
since you’ve stepped into this company, and I’m sure your sister guides and
yourself have gone through 2012 experiencing ups and downs together.
Y3s—are you all starting to get used to being called that
term? As seniors we’ve seen your growth, from strength to strength, and seen
you become more determined. 2013 marks a new year for you, a new journey to go
through with your fellow Guides. And I can promise you that it will be your
most challenging year yet.
Y4s, we’ve come this far in our Guiding journey; this year
will be our last part of the path. This is our final chapter in this company
that we have grown, truly, to call our home.
Guides-- Do you remember the days when you first met the company
and your level mates? When you first bought your Guides uniform, when you first
tied your scarf , when you first learnt footdrill; when you first tied a knot,
when you first went through a camp, when you first sang along with your sister
guides in our campfire. We all grow through the same experience, year after
year. No matter what year you are now, you will also go through these 4 years
together.
The question I want to ask is, do you know what is your
purpose in Guides?
It is definitely not by chance that you are in this company,
reading this post right now. No one else who doesn’t belong to RVGG would be
reading this post, and no one else would care. This company is yours; you
belong to this family. These 4 years that you are going to go through must
surely amount to something. You can't do things without knowing what you do it for.
Think about it. Guides is a CCA that you have to go to every
Tuesday and Friday, and learn skills and drills. You go through enrolment
tests, skills training, camps and courses. At the end, do you know why you are
here and why you go through all these?
Many of us go through things without making it count. We
assume that we have time, and we think that it is not important. We think that
we are not important. And so we use this as a reason to not grab hold of
opportunities. We let moments slip by. These moments add up into memories, and
they might just turn into regrets.
Often, we end up doing things without a sense of purpose,
without knowing why. What is your purpose in Guides? Everyone is important, and
every single one of us have a reason being in this company. Sit down and think
about what you want to achieve this year in Guides. Who are you as a Guide?
Find your purpose of being here, being in RVGG together with your sister
Guides.
Don’t let 2013 just be another year where you follow through
the motions, where you just let things happen and slip by. This year is not
going to come by again, no matter what. Are you going to just be a bystander of
this company or are you going to live out your purpose?
Guides, the choice is always yours.

Monday, January 7, 2013  As mentioned earlier, we are going to have a UG Exhibition tomorrow! :D Here are the allocation of committees and job scopes: Members - Yr 4s: Xiu Ting,Wei Shan, Kar Wei, Jing Lin, Yi Yan (Display Structure) Yr 3s: Tammy, Kimberley, Yang Xue, Rachel, Wei Gee (Clothesline) Yr 2s: Bernice, Li Xuan, Jia Ying, Wan Ning, Ruo Xuan (Shoerack) Each level in the committee are to basically build a structure to be displayed during the exhibition. To the year 2s, instead of making the typical shoerack, you may design a new shoerack. However, do note that it should be visually appealing and able to stand on it's own. The five of you may brain storm tonight. :) Souvenir Committee - Yan Bin and Fang Jen (I/Cs) Members - Yr 4s: Yan Bin, Jia Hui, Zhi Min, Xiaoting, Kar Wei, Wan Zhyi, Xuan Ting Yr 3s: Shin Neng, Janice, Pei Pei, Fang Jen, Eilace, Steffi, Si Ying, Cherith Yr 2s: Grace, Jia Ying, Dion, Luo Ling, Jing Yuan, Charis, Lydia, Chloe, Colette, Shi Lin, Jia Yi, Zi Han, Shervina, Xin Yi, Ting Hui, Tiffany, Kwok Wing, Wen Li, Alena, Ting Chen, Jie Qi, Li Jing, Pui Ying, Fernanda Most of you are in souvenir committee since there is a lot of manpower required. Everyone in souvenir committee please bring along glue, preferably white glue but any kind of glue is fine. :) The committee above is for during the preparation. Next, here are the guides involved in the actual UG Exhibition. Booth - Bing Jie, Xiu Ting, Yu Jia, Kimberly, Pearlwin (In charge of setting up and managing the booth during the exhibition.) Mobile Pairings: [Audi Exit: Near CO Room ] 1. Grace and Wei Gee [Audi Exit: near General Office] 2. Wan Zhyi and Madeline 3. Jia Hui and Zhi Min [Audi Exit: Second Floor] 4. Daphne and Xuan Ting [Big Steps] 5. Yi Yan and Fang Jen [Canteen] 6. Jing Lin and Jia Ying 7. Wei Shan and Yan Bin *Note: Please do not shout/try to 'force' the year 1s to go to our booth. Just usher and direct them to the canteen.* For those who are not on the list, we will be having a creative campcraft competition tomorrow. :) Theme is playground, please think of something innovative to build and be as creative as possible! :D Another thing, for the guides involved in the actual exhibition, please note that your attire for tomorrow will be FULL-U. Others, please report in 2nd U at 3pm sharp. I know the content is quite heavy, but I will be briefing you guys again tomorrow. Thursday, January 3, 2013 Hi guides, Here are some updates and announcements regarding some issues/events. COH There will be a COH meeting on 9th Jan, Wed at 4pm. Venue to be confirmed but it will most likely be at one of the year 4 classrooms. The people involved will be the current PLs and PSs. Please reflect about 2012 and contribute to the discussion on the actual day, do not come with an empty mind. Walkathon Cards The cards will be collected on 15 Feb (Fri) during act. World Thinking Day Competition Deadline For those involved in this, remember to send the soft copy to Daphne by tonight, 2359. The hard copy is due tomorrow before morning assembly. Do pass your work to Daphne at 4B. To those in the bear making competition, be reminded that the bears are to be submitted as well. UG Exhibition UG exhibition will be held on 8th Jan, Tuesday, during CCA.
